Josh Hartmann
Chief Technology Officer
For Josh Hartmann, Travelocity's chief technology officer since March 2008, advancing the company's technology beyond strategic initiatives and beyond the competition is job one. In his role as CTO, Hartmann is responsible for all architecture decisions and technical direction for the company. Hartmann has a depth of experience in the online travel industry, beginning with entrepreneurial work and advancing into his current role.
Hartmann joined Travelocity in 2002 as the vice president of technology and product development. In this role, oversaw the 200-person technical organization responsible for developing and maintaining Travelocity's leisure travel shopping and booking web site. While in this position, he designed and implemented Travelocity's merchant hotels solution, built the dynamic packaging product and implemented and managed a fully services-based air shopping solution for Travelocity that resulted in a 20-fold increase in search breadth and 50 percent reduction in response time.
Prior to Travelocity, Hartmann was the chief technology officer for Site59.com, a seller of last minute travel packages, where he built a technology team of 30 to develop and manage their technology platform. He also worked on their technology roadmap that allowed easy redistribution to partners, while managing all vendor relationships.
Hartmann earned his bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Favorite travel moment:It's a tie! The first was an adventure in Sa Pa, in the far northwest corner of Vietnam near the Chinese border. It started with an overnight train ride from Hanoi and a trip by Soviet-era jeep before a full day hike through the most beautiful mountains. The second was more relaxing but no less fascinating - experiencing the backwaters of Kerala, India, on our honeymoon.
